Savari - The Rocker

Savari is a rocker designed for children. The form of this rocker is inspired by the rib cage of a horse and Prof. M.P.Ranjan's cube stool. The idea was to create a symmetrical yet organic form which emphasized strength and natural appeal of the bamboo strips. The name Savari is a Kannada word which means a rider. The rocker helps children build Gross Motor skills by training the use of their larger muscle groups particularly their upper body strength to keep them upright. Bamboo is a fascinating material with limitless applications. It is adaptable, Lightweight and long-lasting and a renewable resource. Though bamboo is extremely strong in all its forms, the strength of bamboo strips is particularly intriguing. It is a natural material and is made up of straight and Long Fibers in one direction, bonded together by cellulose, it is safe to say that Bamboo is a very strong material and is very hard to break. Heating the bamboo strips melts the cellulose and it becomes flexible, and takes the shape given to it . Once the material cools down, the cellulose hardens it takes the shape given to it. Bamboo is a plant that has the ability to grow even in harsh conditions, and comes under the grass family. It is a fast growing plant, and is a renewable resource. Hence making Bamboo an Ideal choice for this product. It is Lightweight, Renewable, It can be moulded into the required shape. The Bamboo species used to make this prototype are Bambusa tulda,. The Bamboo strips are heat bent along a formwork and The entire structure is looped, interlocked, and woven to work in unison. The adhesive used here is Araldite.
