Gidi Littman
Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art
My name is Gidi Litman, and I am a third-year fashion design student at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art. I was born and raised in Kibbutz Bar’am, a small community in northern Israel situated on a green hill, surrounded by mountains and streams. Nature has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My childhood landscape consisted of agriculture, forests, animals, and everything nature has to offer: life was inseparably intertwined with the natural world. The images of these landscapes that accompanied me as a child have shaped who I am and continue to influence my approach to life: from aesthetics and sources of inspiration, through fabric and material choices, to the design itself. Most of my projects and design decisions incorporate elements and inspirations drawn from nature, making the choice of natural materials almost self-evident. Working with cotton, wool, leather, and other natural materials feels intuitive and right, while also supporting the goals I aim to achieve in my designs. Natural materials possess unique qualities that stand out in my work and serve its purpose: softness and delicacy, movement and harmony, diversity and durability are just some of the advantages embedded within them. These qualities also reflect my personal connection to the natural world and to authenticity.
