xiangzhi zhao

The Royal College of Art

Xiangzhi Zao (b. 2002) graduated from Central Saint Martins, with First Class Honours, and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Royal College of Art. During his undergraduate studies, he studied under Matt Malpass, a founding figure of Critical Design, and in his master’s program, he is mentored by Mah Rana, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). Zhao’s research interests focus on exploring the expression of craft and design through an interdisciplinary approach. His work investigates the potential relationships between material culture, manufacturing technologies, and historical contexts within near-future design scenarios, viewing design as a cultural language and speculative medium that transcends disciplinary boundaries.
