Moon Reed

Category: Interior

Competitions: Home Competition 2025

This Moon Reed lamp is inspired by the 25th-day moon, a soft crescent that appears just before the new moon. Every time I see it, I feel a quiet sense of peace. That gentle curve and glow bring a kind of calmness to my mind. I wanted to capture that mood and bring it into a physical form using natural, sustainable materials. I chose reed grass for its flexibility, texture, and sustainable qualities. I started the process by making a mould in a moon-like curve to guide the overall shape. Then, using the twined weaving method, I carefully wove the reed grass around the mould after soaking it to make it more flexible. This weaving not only gave strength to the form but also allowed beautiful gaps for light to pass through. To hang the lamp, I used sack thread, which matched the raw, earthy aesthetic of the whole piece. Inside, I fitted a slender warm LED filament bulb, it consumes very less power and gives Tungsten Filament Antique look, it gives off a warm, soft light without much heat. When it lights up, the lamp throws gentle, radial shadows on the wall, creating a soothing and calming effect. Personally, I love how this warm light relaxes my mind—it’s like moonlight indoors. The overall form also reminds me of a bird’s nest, connecting it to natural shelters and peaceful habitats. This project helped me explore not just a product, but also the feeling it brings into a space. It fits beautifully in minimal, natural interiors, and reflects my belief in combining craft, sustainability, and emotional experience in design.
