I am Rose Prince, a Textile Designer and weaver currently in my last year studying at Chelsea College of Arts. My practice is material-led and focuses on the exploration of British wool as a sustainable, expressive and under-valued fibre within contemporary textile design. Working primarily through weaving, I use natural materials to investigate texture, structure and surface, allowing the qualities of the wool to guide each design. I am particularly interested in the relationship between traditional craft techniques and modern applications, and how British wool can be reintroduced into design conversations through thoughtful, process-driven making. Sustainability is central to my work. I am committed to using locally sourced fibres and slow production methods, with an emphasis on longevity, traceability and environmental responsibility. By choosing British wool, I aim to support local supply chains while challenging perceptions around the fibre’s value and versatility. My work celebrates imperfection, tactility and the inherent character of natural materials. Through my studies, I continue to experiment with weave structures and finishes to highlight wool’s durability, warmth and adaptability. I see weaving as both a technical and intuitive process, one that allows me to tell stories about place, material and making.
