Mingyu Xu is the 2024 winner of the Only Natural Home Furniture Category.
Mingyu is a Furniture Design graduate from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London. His collection, Parallel Forest, was created in 2022 as an exploration of applying traditional bamboo weaving techniques to furniture in modern interior spaces.
Bamboo weaving has been an important part of Asian product design throughout history, however this traditional form of craft has been marginalised in modern lifestyles and living spaces. Mingyu’s collection offers a contemporary form of bamboo weaving where both the beauty and functionality of the natural material are presented.
