After Harvest

After Harvest is a sculptural lighting object made from recycled cotton fibre, rice husks and cornstarch. It began with an interest in the materials left behind by everyday cycles of use: cotton that has already passed through the textile system, and rice husks that remain after harvest. The lamp transforms these natural residues into a soft, felt-like surface that filters light. Recycled cotton forms the body of the material, while rice husks create texture, density and subtle interruptions in the glow. The sheets are handmade, pleated and stitched together, allowing the construction to remain visible. Bamboo supports are sewn into the sheets, giving the lamp structure while keeping the material system natural and repairable. The base is formed from hydrated lime, cotton and rice husks, creating a denser counterpoint to the lighter translucent shade. Together, the shade and base explore how the same natural fibres can shift in weight, opacity and strength depending on process and proportion. Through its warm light and tactile surface, After Harvest explores a quieter way of designing for the home. It values natural materials not only for where they come from, but for what they can become when handled with care. The project proposes an alternative to synthetic, disposable interiors by turning reclaimed fibres and agricultural by-products into an object designed for atmosphere, longevity and everyday use.
