"The connection with nature and my relationship with the environment underpins all my designs. Cultivating this interest, I have focused on organic forms in my portfolio. This is evident throughout my work, in which I translate these studies into textile samples. The samples mirror the repeating patterns and ethereal qualities found in nature. Finding the balance within an environmentally kind lifestyle has always been important to me, and sustainability is a constant foundation in my designs. Equilibrium with the environment is represented here by my use of paper yarns, my sourcing of deadstock materials, and working with locally sourced wool. The paper yarn is made from recycled paper, so no new materials are needed to make the yarn. The wool is sourced from local crofters in Shetland, and the linen is from a deadstock yarn company. All of this gives the knitwear collection a very low carbon footprint. These textile samples are suggestions for a simple and organic relationship with nature, encouraging a more careful and conscious approach to place."
