Originally designed for around six to thirty-six months of use during infancy, the selected baby swing seat was found discarded on a nature strip with a cracked hinge and a single intact rope. An object shaped by fast, disposable systems of production and never intended to outlive its first cycle of care. Rather than replacing it, the project adopts a circular design approach grounded in upcycling, material retention and repair. Retaining the original plastic structure beneath, 100% natural cotton towels are introduced as a secondary layer to soften, extend and reinterpret the object without erasing its history. Inspired by the human body’s ability to repair and adapt, the project treats design as an act of care rather than replacement. Furthermore, constructed from reclaimed household materials and natural fibres, the chair reimagines childhood furniture as something that can evolve, hold playful memories and remain in circulation beyond a single generation.
