Drawing from traditional timber joinery, Root Joint replaces all plastic and metal hardware with a compression taper-lock joint made from bamboo fiber composite, bound with lignin-based bio-resin extracted from the same fibers it holds together. A beeswax and tung oil finish provides natural moisture resistance. The system distributes load across multiple contact points, outperforming single-point screw connections, while remaining fully tool-free to assemble and disassemble. Scalable across shelving, seating, and modular furniture, it functions as a connective language rather than a single product. At end-of-life, Root Joint requires no separation into waste streams — it returns fully to soil, with no plastic, no metal, and no residue that outlives the furniture it was designed to hold together.
