AVOSKA

Category: Accessories

'Avoska' project reimagines the traditional string shopping bag, historically rooted in cultures across Japan, North Asia, and Eastern Europe. Utilizing a technique inspired by Kirigami, the design transforms flat, two-dimensional planes into dynamic, voluminous forms through precise cuts in the material. Conceptually, the bag serves as a reflection on modern society—a critique of the continuous 'masks' we wear. The use of colorful, shimmering leather acts as a mirror to our wastefulness, while the initial 2D sheets symbolize the flattening of our experiences. Yet, the physical creation process sparked a deep love and appreciation for the material itself, bridging the gap between critique and admiration. The design embodies the realization that true depth and magic lie within. Ultimately, even a seemingly flat surface, once 'cracks' (cuts) are formed, generates a new morphology that provides much more space and volume. It beautifully demonstrates that looking from the inside exposes truths that remain completely invisible from the outside."
