“DELEGATION” Irelands neo heritage eco friendly salmon leather

Category: Apparel

This project started with a concept, in a world which relies so heavily in the imports of goods what would happen to a country like Ireland if all of these channels were closed and we had to look to what we have and make do. “Delegation” represents a garment design manual in a new dystopian Ireland, where “nepo heritage fabrics” needed to be sourced to dress the citizens in uniforms. Certain considerations needed to be made such as durability, ecological impact, viability structure ect. Through months of research and experimentation fish leather was the selected textile but in order to achieve the most sustainable and affordable option I sourced smoked skins from a local factory which would otherwise be waste product and I spent months figuring out a new tanning method that’s would not only work as smoked skins are known to create subpar leather but also wouldn’t harm the environment. In the end I landed on my own soloution which I used to create one of the dresses from the uniform lineup- with a matching bonnet and underwear set.
