The painted Jumper
Category: Apparel
This garment was made as part of the unit 'Designer Identity' at University. Inspired by the works of 'Yayoi Kusama', I explored her design choices, such as: bright and contrasting colours, interesting and unusual shapes and a range of scales, through the medium of knit. My designer Identity is very handcraft focused, therefore I focused on slow processes, such as: lifted stitches on domestic machine, crochet, weaving, bleach dye and eyelets. I also chose a Muse, who aligns with my own identity and values. This person is Keith Flint, who took an anarchic, punk approach to his personal style. I included this in my design, using bleach dye, ladders and eyelets to create a more experimental and rebellious feel which aligns with the 'do it yourself' nature of the punk subculture but also evolves the design from being too 'sweet' and aligning it more with my personal style. Made almost entirely of natural materials (except the eyelets), this jumper is not only sustainable but it is also a one of a kind piece which would be cherished for years , not discarded after a few wears.
