Areni 1 #2

Category: Footwear

'Areni 1 #2' project is a modern take on the oldest shoe ever discovered. The design repeats the ancient way of making the shoe, but translates it into a modern, geometric look. I took the exact line of the original shoelaces and applied it as a digital cut in my design. Instead of the traditional round shape, the new shoe has a more square, cubist structure that fits today's world. This shape is created using a system of precise laser-cut slits. Also, the shape of the heel is an exact copy of the cave entrance where the original ancient shoe was found. By using vegetable-tanned leather together with new laser-cutting technology, the project creates a beautiful connection between ancient handcraft and modern design.
