Coprinopsis Atramentaria

A commitment to sustainability and conscious creation lies at the centre of my design practice. My work holds respect for the planet from the very beginning, with an exploration into digital pattern cutting and prototyping, in an effort to reduce fabric waste that would be created through multiple prototypes. Following from this, the final piece is created with intention, crafted exclusively from vegan, natural fabrics that honour the Earth as opposed to harm it the way synthetic fabrics do. Consisting of locally sourced tweed and bamboo silk, these timeless natural materials supplement the human body, aging alongside us and can ultimately be returned to the soil from which they came. Inspired by the relationship humanity has with nature, this garment reimagines outdoor exploration with an emphasis on sustainability. Drawing from the organic structures and silhouettes of mushrooms translating to folds and intricate layers, the nostalgic ‘wrapped up’ feeling of camping in the west coast of Scotland and the transformative potential of natural materials, this garment fuses nature with avant-garde aesthetics.
