An Emotional Paradox
Category: Apparel
When emotions are heightened and you're overwhelmed with too much, sometimes our mind instinctively dissociates leaving us feeling stuck and frozen in place. "An Emotional Paradox" explores the psychological state of being frozen, capturing the juxtaposition of intensity and emptiness, where the mind races, yet the body refuses to move. Depicting this feeling of being trapped in a state of emotional paralysis, this zero-waste design utilises bioplastics, incorporating stiff, sculpted fabrics, capturing the garment to appear caught mid-motion. In hand with elements of asymmetry and distortion it is further characterised by the usage of rough, uneven textures, to evoke a sense of restraint and inner chaos. An all-black colour palette is utilised to enhance this sense of coldness and isolation, reinforcing this theme of numbness and detachment. Through interplay of structure, texture, and colour, this piece transforms intangible emotions into a visual and tactile representation, translating the silent weight of emotional turmoil into wearable art.
