This project explores the relationship between material, longevity, and transformation through the use of raw cotton denim. Traditionally associated with durability and workwear, denim becomes both a conceptual and functional medium for investigating protection, restriction, and the traces left by time. Inspired by the sculptural volumes of Cristóbal Balenciaga and the psychological themes of Louise Bourgeois, the collection combines cocoon-like silhouettes with modular construction to create garments that shift between concealment and release. The garment is constructed from untreated 100% cotton raw denim sourced from PROSPERITY TEXTILE. By preserving the fabric in its natural state, the material is allowed to evolve with the wearer rather than being artificially aged through industrial finishing. Marks of wear become part of the garment's history, encouraging care, repair, and a longer relationship between the wearer and the piece. The design incorporates detachable elements and multiple wearing configurations, allowing a single garment to adapt to different situations and reducing the need for additional clothing. Individual components can be repaired or replaced, extending the garment's lifespan while supporting a more thoughtful approach to consumption. Throughout the project, sustainability is understood not only through material choice but through design decisions that encourage longevity, adaptability, and emotional attachment. By combining natural fibres, modular construction, and responsible material sourcing, the project proposes an alternative relationship with clothing - one that values craftsmanship, evolution, and lasting connection over disposability.
