Natural fabrics are rarely used, the majority of the time they are plastic based. Plastic based materials are cheap and easy to get hold off. Hence why they are used for mass production. These garments are bad for the environment as they break easily. This results in people discarding them, and the rubbish ending up in landfill or the ocean. Plastic can not decompose even close to the same rate as natural materials. This causes future problems for us and nature. To combat this, I have always used second hand fabrics or bought from small businesses for my designs. I wanted to make a light weight design that is mostly made from cotton, include some leather elements, and wool; it’s super exciting to use fabric that I haven’t had the chance to use before. I wanted the garment to look very freeing but, fit with a cute, dainty vibe. I feel that this design reflects my personal style and has so much potential in modern times. The design is timeless and versatile. This allows the user to customise and become more in control of what and how they wear their outfits. This is opposed to the current garments being released; where everything comes in sets and there is a right and a wrong way to wear it. To become more aware of where my fabrics come from, I will use second hand textile. By doing this it will reduce the amount I buy online and the environmental impact. When looking at this design, I get the feeling of being in the rain. Walking the streets of France, with art nouveau buildings towering above. This design feels like dancing in the rain.
