Anushka Shinde

Anushka Shinde is a multidisciplinary designer who developed an interest in biodesign, systems thinking, speculative design and the parallels they have. She enjoys interdisciplinary work as it helps her understand multiple perspectives and approaches to design, life and everything in between. Her latest work is focussed on speculating the use of Biodesign in the immediate future in terms of material design.

Competitions: Fashion Competition 2026

Membrane is a camera pouch created using seaweed bio-leather developed using seaweed sourced from Northern Sri Lankan seaweed cultivating communities, to test the material’s compatibility with stitching, canvas and similar production processes. Each piece carries the inherent texture, colour and qualities, making each piece unique. 

 This project is an enquiry into the possibility of converting new materials into tangible solutions that can be scaled at large. It also challenges us to consider the limitations and abilities of a material, and working around its capability rather than the other way around. Membrane invites one to consider pushing the boundaries and collaborate with the material to create new possibilities with the materials in our everyday lives with untapped potential.

Växa

Competitions: Home Competition 2026

Växa is a GIY (Grow-It-Yourself) kit table side lamp. It comes with bioplastic PLA skeleton, dehydrated moss that rehydrates once watered, a growth mix which is a Bio Based glue which helps it grow onto a surface and the rest of the electric components. The structure form is very flowy but uniform and complements the growth. My future plans are to experiment with more structures. The aim is to integrate living organisms into our lives as active participants in a shared ecosystem, moving beyond their use as mere tools or materials. This envisions a future where living artefacts foster new ways of relating to our surroundings, prompting a reconsideration of our relationship with the natural world and the role of living matter in our designed environment. With this in mind, it leverages the unpredictability in growth patterns as one of the aesthetic choices and appeals, as it differentiates each product from the other, and makes it a standalone piece in itself. With further development, this along with many other products in this range will be more resilient and consumer ready.
