BINNAI LAMP The Binnai Lamp takes its name from 'Bunai', the Hindi word for weaving or knitting. It draws on the tactile memory of threads becoming form: a grandmother’s hands knitting a sweater, fibres crossing and tightening, softness gradually gaining structure. The lamp reinterprets the familiar language of Indian basketry and traditional oil lanterns for contemporary, mobile living. Rather than treating craft as nostalgia, Binnai translates it into an object designed for everyday use: a lightweight, portable light that can move easily between spaces and accompany its user through different moments of the day. Its form emerges directly from the logic of the material. Hand-woven bamboo creates a soft, textured shell that filters and diffuses light, while the cane handle gives the lamp stability, flexibility and an intuitive way to carry it. Each element is purposeful: the woven surface shapes the atmosphere of the light, the handle defines its portability, and the compact construction makes it both functional and emotionally familiar. Binnai brings together hand-made bamboo weaving and contemporary lighting technology, creating a dialogue between inherited knowledge and present-day needs. The use of renewable natural materials, combined with a lightweight and material-conscious construction, positions the lamp as a more considered alternative to disposable decorative lighting. Designed to be both desirable and useful, Binnai can live on a bedside table, travel to a terrace, or become a warm companion during an evening away from home. It carries the poetry of the traditional Indian lantern forward, not as an object from the past, but as a living ritual of light.
