Roscha Dinler
Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
My name is Roscha, and I am a programming student from Nuremberg, Germany.
My interest in shoemaking started in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I began
customizing and repairing my own shoes to make them last longer. At first it was just repairs out of
necessity, but I quickly got more interested in the craft itself. Since I don’t have a formal
background in design or shoemaking, I learned everything through self-study, mainly by
researching shoemakers and cobblers and trying things out on my own. Over time, I moved from
simple repairs to making my own shoes and started to think more about design and the traditional
techniques necessary to improve my craft.
Alongside my studies and my work in Digital Industries at Siemens, I spend most of my free time
improving my skills. I try to better understand materials, construction, and most importantly how
small design choices change the final result.
In 2024, I took part in the RLSD competition, where I was a finalist and won the footwear category.
My primary goal is to keep improving and transition into the footwear industry, with the long-term
goal of establishing my own workshop for handmade and bespoke shoes.
