Sriya & Nihal Reddy

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN

Coming from furniture and textile design respectively, Sriya Reddy and Nihal Reddy use bamboo as a medium to bridge disciplines, reinterpreting traditional craftsmanship through contemporary design. With backgrounds spanning the National Institute of Design, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), their collaborative practice is shaped by an ongoing dialogue between material, technique, and form, balancing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary experimentation. Combining Sriya's interest in reimagining traditional craft through material exploration with Nihal's sensitivity to textiles, motif development, and intricate detailing, they create objects that invite curiosity, interaction, and a deeper connection with material.

Whispering Wing

Category: Furniture

Competitions: Home Competition 2026

Whispering Wing draws inspiration from the fragile wing of a moth, translating its form into a woven bamboo mirror that transforms the act of reflection. Light passing through the woven structure softens and distorts the image, dissolving distinctions and inviting viewers to reconsider how they see themselves and one another. Rooted in traditional bamboo craftsmanship yet expressed through a contemporary lens, the work reflects on the delicate relationship between people, materials, and nature, where moments of imperfection become spaces for connection and contemplation.
