Krisha Lathiya

I am a Textile Design student at the National Institute of Design. From a very young age, I have been more interested in making things than drawing them, always curious about materials and how they behave. After completing my schooling in Commerce, I joined NID, where I found myself naturally drawn to courses that involved hands-on exploration and material experimentation. Having recently completed my second year, I enjoy working directly with materials, understanding traditional processes, and questioning their possibilities through experimentation. My practice is driven by curiosity, making, and a desire to discover new expressions within existing crafts and techniques.

Competitions: Home Competition 2026

The project began with understanding traditional hand block printing and questioning its visual possibilities. What more could this craft achieve beyond its conventional use? Through extensive experimentation with natural dyes, it explores whether smooth colour transitions often associated with digital printing can be created within hand block printing itself. During the sampling process, the interaction of the textile with sunlight revealed another dimension of the work: colours became more vibrant, details emerged, and the surface appeared to glow, particularly in direct light. The final outcome extends the visual language of traditional block printing while creating a textile that continuously changes with its environment.
