Kimberley Cronin

IED Istituto Europeo Di Design

My name is Kimberley Cronin, i’m a 21 year old half irish, half french, young professional currently in third year studying Product Design at IED Barcelona. I approach design through exploration, diving into multiple fields to uncover all possibilities. To me, ideation and experimentation are key to understanding every factor of a design in order to designs with intention, where funtional creations only add to the world rather than take away from it.

Porcelain Oil Lamp

Category: Interior

Competitions: Home Competition 2025

To pay tribute to my Irish roots, dipping crochet in porcelain is connected to Belleek porcelain. This irish heritage heirloom consists of weaving baskets out of fine and creamy porcelain. An oil lamp operates through an ancient system; by submerging cotton in oil and lighting it. This oil lamp transforms this traditional technique into a modern and functional product, by combining craft and experimentation. Thus, it provides a modern perspective on a traditional device that has, with time, been forgotten.
