Istituto Marangoni: Fashion, Art and Design

Hello! I am Arushi Shrivastava, and I'm a Fashion Designer. I enjoy creating elegant, Ready-To-Wear designs with clean silhouettes, soft hues, and garments that speak of utility and beauty. Through my designs, I aim at bringing focus towards craftsmanship and the significance of a well crafted product, inside out, for its longer life. I have two years of experience in the industry, having worked in various fashion-related roles. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design (B.Des) from NIFT Bengaluru, India, and a Master's in Fashion Design Womenswear (MA) from Istituto Marangoni, London, with distinction. I'm the happiest and the most at peace in a creative environment, bringing my thoughts and sketches to life and sharing them with the world!

This project draws its inspiration from the calmness by the sea. A very personal feeling and concept, it talks about how I feel "I will be okay” when I am by the sea listening to the waves touch the sand back and forth, the sunset, the horizon, and the hues. It helps me understand that nothing in life is so major that you let is consume you. The design tries to capture that feeling through the colour, form, and design details. It is a ready-to-wear garment, with emphasis on small details that bring out the craftsmanship and elegance, while keeping in mind the viability of its production. Catering to the aspect of sustainability, all the fabrics used in this collection are excess fabrics that I sourced during my Undergraduate and Masters and had been lying around with me for years together. They are all natural, including types of cotton, linen, and jute linen, as I have always been using these fabrics to bring out ease and comfort in my designs. The colours are derived from the colours of the beach, the design elements are picked for the visuality and tactility of the waves and the sand (embroidery and panelling), and the silhouettes are inspired by an amalgamation of the beach itself and beach wear, to create an easy, comfortable dress to be worn out to brunches/ coffees/ get togethers/ or just a casual day.
