My work explores the need for reconnection between clothes, their makers, wearers and the natural resources used in their production. It celebrates a return to traditional production methods focussing on natural dyeing dyeing and knitting, exploring the idea of turning to the past in search of solutions for the future. The physical process of making is highlighted throughout. I work exclusively with natural fibres, predominantly utilising deadstock materials to reduce waste, and dye using food waste or plants grown in my garden. My work highlights the importance of giving clothes a second life, by incorporating seeds into the work, the pieces are ready to sprout new life once they reach the end of their own. The focus is not simply on what we can physically take from the earth, but the knowledge, ideas and inspiration it gives, which in turn result in giving back, working in cyclical harmony with nature.
