The Iceland University of the Arts

I am a freshly graduated student from the Iceland University of the Arts with a Bachelor's degree in fashion design. I have been specializing in textile desing and know the usual technuiqes such as knitting and weaving, printing and dyeing, etc. Now I have been focusing a new nieche of natural and traditional leather tanning. For My graduation collection I tanned twelve skins successfully with the guidence of my mentors, Lene Zachariassen and Þóra Sif Kópsdóttir. My main dream is to become a independent tanner. My master plan would be to make natural tanneries internationally that would focus on bettering the economy, sustainability and ethics of countries, providing jobs not only for the tanneries, but also for forestries and ethical farms. I beleive that a healthy economy can made through fashion with the right heart. I have worked in my mentors tanneries, but I have also been a photo assistant at Vogue Scandinavia's Autumn '23 issue and done commissions. From my BA in fashion, I want to continue in MSc in marketing or MA in fashion and textile design.

Ashes to Ashes, Skin to Skin

Category: Apparel

Competitions: Fashion Competition 2025

The collection is called Ashes to Ashes, Skin to Skin. Its main inspiration is the animal and revolves around the journey of discovering how I respect the animals sacrificed through the making of the leather, to the shaping of the garments and how I represent it to the world. I was also inspired by the philosophy of Yves Klein's extreme minimalism and Joseph Beuy's social sculpture. I believe the originality of my work comes from the ideas of respect in design. Not only did I tan the leather myself with spruce bark, I also wetmolded the whole skin into shape, allowing the leather to take many different forms in the future. This is represented with my collection of garments being combined afterwards into a scuplture for an exhibition. I hope to be able to show many works with my leather to the world, mending the viewers connection to nature, and teaching my virtues.
