I'm a newly graduated product and industrial design student from Central Saint Martins. I'm interested in the relationship and power dynamics between humans and nature in urban cities, and like to explore a future where urban dwellers are able to coexist with nature sustainably.

Tilt

Category: Interior

Competitions: Home Competition 2025

This product targets urban dwellers who are becoming increasingly detached from nature by using indoor houseplants. Through using weights, the plant interacts with the user by tilting side to side, encouraging the user to notice and appreciate the growth of their plants. A plant is planted in the flower pot and watered. The user chooses a weight of a suitable size and hangs it on the end of the bar so that the plant is balanced and upright. As the plant absorbs the water and becomes lighter, it tilts sideways towards the weight, signalling to the user that it needs to be watered. The user then waters the plant so that it returns to an upright position. Over time as the plant grows larger and heavier, the weight is swapped out for a larger one and the process repeats.
