Sakshi Bhatia

Hi I’m Saki! I’m from North Carolina, but I moved to NYC for school. I am studying fashion design and that’s where my main interest is, but I also have always loved 2D art mediums, including painting and drawing. My love for other forms of art and media has become a part of the language I use through my preferred medium of garment construction. Inspired by my background in design, I am able to manipulate fabric into conveying an important narrative, usually very close to my personal journey. The garments I create become an archive of who I am, especially through the use of textile craft inspired by my heritage. Through the course of school, I have learned the importance of craft that comes out of India and specifically to women, making me feel proud contributing to keeping handicraft alive. By storytelling, my designs also help me feel connected to the memories of my past through the stories that I have heard and lived. I hope to always appeal to people with my design through relatability and the ability to give a deeper meaning to my art.
