Hey! I'm Sophie, a multidisciplinary designer currently based in Tel - Aviv. I work in different mediums such as industrial design, graphic design and art. I seek my inspiration at Ukrainian culture as I spent all my childhood in Ukraine, natural materials, industrial proccesses and a contrast between them.

For the past 3 years I am physically separated from the places I grew up in because of the war in Ukraine. My way to connect to my roots was to carry out an in-depth exploration of Ukrainian customs and traditional dinnerware. I designed a set of dishes - a wine jug and glasses, and a dish for serving baked bread with salt. The main value of the Ukrainian people is their deep connection to the land and their appreciation of harvest, soil, nature. A wine jug, glasses and a bread dish are casted from clay and are not glazed from the outside, allowing us to explore the raw beauty of eart's natural material. The salt dish is made from copper with sandblasted pattern. I was inspired by Kumanets, a traditional vessel for serving wine to the table that is usually carried to table on forearm. Serving bread with a pinch of salt to guests is an important hospitality gesture in Ukraine. The aim of my project is to explore traditional materials and to transform them into something new, and to broaden the knowledge about a Ukrainian culture.
