London College of Fashion

My name is Clara Aurelia and I am about to enter my graduate year as a fashion design, womenswear, student at the London College of Fashion. I am a movement and garment artist interested in using creative spaces as tools to investigate and explore. I am interested in that which exists in the physical world as well as what happens in our minds and the places in between. My training background in dance has allowed me to often use my body to express or understand things around me. I still use movement and dance within my work and often create on or for myself. I find that both my movement “language” and the language I use in my garment or physical making can communicate with each other. A lot of my practice in design is influenced by the improvisation I often did as a dancer. The fluctuations and flow as things connect, break apart and come together whilst chasing a connection with your environment. My stages of development in a project are often rooted in some form of movement but always focus on finding a synchronisation between my current feelings// surroundings and the project focus. My sketchbooks usually follow a pattern of being fairly scattered and calm to suddenly very chaotic. At the moment I have been bridging these two in working with dancers or choreographers to develop costumes for dance and performance. Alongside this my work at university is inspired by, and using, tailoring, corsetry and vintage construction techniques from different periods.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
