Having studied at Parsons School of Design and University of the Arts London, my practice explores sustainability and handcraft as a response to mass industrial production. I see craft not as a meaningless accumulation of time, but as a personal language through which I reinterpret techniques that cannot be replaced by machines. Also, East Asian culture helps me understand the relationship between myself and the social environment.

Journey to Shiga

Competitions: Home Competition 2026

In the summer of 2024, I spent two months studying at Fukumi Shimura’s studio in Shiga, Japan, where I learned the full process of traditional weaving, including reeling silk from cocoons, natural dyeing, yarn preparation, warping, and setting up the loom. My research explored the history of the feminist movement in Japan, through which I found a shared language between feminism and the quiet, delicate strength of textile work. I also investigated the impact of rising sea levels on island nations such as Japan. In response, I chose a palette of blue and green tones, hoping to evoke awareness of environmental protection and the fragile relationship between land, water, and human life. The final piece measures 45 cm wide and 4.5 metres long. It can be used as a rug, tablecloth, or decorative art piece.
