Hi, I’m Mary-Jane but, you can call me MJ. I was born in Perth and raised in Hong Kong from the age of three, where I developed a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, adaptability, and creativity. After my right of passage through high school, to making the move to Melbourne I am now 22 and finishing up at Collarts (The Australian College of the Arts). My work spans manufacturing, designing, pattern-making, styling, and creative direction — all grounded in a slow, intentional approach to fashion. From my very first commission to leading full concept shoots, I’ve always seen clothing as a way to tell stories and express identity. Now in my final year at Collarts studying Fashion & Sustainability, my brand Mujō Made reflects this ethos: one-off, upcycled pieces made with purpose and care. Inspired by philosophies like kintsugi and the Japanese concept of impermanence, I believe fashion should hold meaning — stitched with emotion, shaped by individuality, and worn with pride. I’m passionate about bringing this mindset into every project I take on — whether it’s designing a custom garment, assisting on set, or contributing to a brand with purpose. I thrive in collaborative environments where creativity, detail, and authenticity matter, and I’m always eager to learn, adapt, and grow. With a strong foundation in design and production, and a genuine love for people and storytelling. I aim to add value to the fashion industry by advocating for more human-centered, sustainable practices — creating work that not only looks chic but feels intentional, challenges norms, and encourages emotional connection between people and their clothes.
