Shiyu Gong

University of the Arts London

Shiyu Gong is a Beijing-based jewelry and fashion artefact designer. A graduate of the MA Fashion Artefact at London College of Fashion, Gong focuses on the symbiotic relationship between the human body, cultural context, and material narrative. His creative practice centers on redefining natural mediums such as leather, wood, and Urushi lacquer, breathing new life into traditional crafts through innovative technical exploration. Currently, he is pioneering a series of body sculptures that utilize leather and bamboo to facilitate a dialogue between organic textures and contemporary fashion. Gong’s craftsmanship has earned him significant global recognition: he was the Winner of the 2024 BIAAF (Bilbao International Art & Fashion) in the Accessories category, a Semi-finalist for the 2023 Louis Vuitton (LV) Accessories Design Graduate Competition, and received a Special Mention at Craft the Leather 2023 in Italy. His works have been exhibited internationally, notably at Lineapelle (Milan) and the COSMO China Fashion Gala.
