NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN
I am presently engaged in a Master’s program in Lifestyle Accessory Design at National Institute of design, concentrating on sustainability and material innovation. Before this, I dedicated three years to the industry as a product and accessory designer, where I cultivated a practical understanding of craft, function, and design responsibility. My path as a designer has progressively evolved towards circular design and the potential of material transformation. I am enthusiastic about utilizing natural resources, biowaste, and discarded materials to create alternatives to traditional plastics and synthetics. My recent projects involve developing bioplastics and flexible films from spent coffee grounds — endeavours that embody my commitment to merging science, sustainability, and design in accessible manners. Additionally, I have collaborated with the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), where I acquired deeper knowledge of biomaterials and the role of material design in influencing the future of sustainable fashion and lifestyle products. Although I have experience with conventional materials like leather, my current emphasis is on generating new materials from waste — not solely for their functional benefits, but for the narratives they convey about regeneration, resilience, and responsibility. I am eager to take part in this competition as a means to challenge the norms of fast fashion and advocate for a material-first approach to accessories or apparel — one that prioritizes longevity, local resources, and views waste as an opportunity. I am convinced that genuine innovation resides in making sustainability both tactile and emotional through design.
