Living Furniture

Category: Furniture

Competitions: Home Competition 2026

Living furniture aims to increase the presence of plants in our indoor environment by integrating it into everyday furniture. The shelf is made out of ceramic and salvaged oak wood from trees fell down by arborists in Stockholm that would otherwise be used as wooden chips. The joineries are made of wooden plug and the plant pots themselves, being not only a decorative but also a functional element. The traditional joinery makes it possible to assemble and disassemble the shelf without any tools. The shape of the shelf is oriented towards the thriving of the plants: the two upper boards are shorter, thus giving space and light for the plants to grow. The shelf aims to bring indoor vegetation for city apartments. Daily contact with nature improves our wellbeing and reduces stress. The plants clean the air and remove the polluting particles emanating from the wall’s paint and other materials of a room. Finally, it triggers our biophilia, human’s innate tendency to seek connection with nature and other living beings, which often misses in our modern city life.
