ISLA MUSA: Woven by Nature In a world racing toward the digital, I wanted to take a step back — to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with something real. This collection is a love letter to the islands, a quiet rebellion against fast fashion and synthetic overload. Using banana fibres as the foundation, I set out to explore a fresh take on knitwear: modern in form, yet deeply sustainable, vegan, and cruelty-free. Banana fibre, a byproduct of agricultural waste, offers an earthy texture and gentle sheen — an ideal canvas for soft, breathable summer dresses that feel as good as they look and stay with us for years. To enhance the structure and comfort of each piece, I combined banana fibres with organic cotton, a natural and ethical choice that complements the raw beauty of the collection. Organic cotton adds softness and flexibility, while maintaining breathability and eco-integrity — creating a balanced textile that supports both function and feel. I have decided to choose this fibre as there is a long list of its beneficial effect on the planet and the wearers- for instance: - during cultivation of organic cotton, there is no use of pesticides or chemicals, that are harmful to health and the ecosystem - it is hypoallergenic fibre, breathable and does not generate static electricity unlike synthetic fibres Finishing details like coconut shell buttons were chosen not only for their tropical charm but also for their zero-waste appeal. Sourced from discarded coconut husks, these buttons reinforce the collection’s vision: letting nothing go to waste, and finding elegance in nature’s leftovers. The designs are rooted in the tropical world — sun-washed silhouettes, netted textures, and bold colours, with a twist inspired by the funky spirit of 1960s beachwear. Each piece is meant to bring a little bit of paradise into everyday life. This is fashion for the soul — something we need now more than ever.
