Regent's University London

I am currently pursuing a degree in Fashion Design at Regent's University London, with a strong interest in bio textiles and avant-garde design. My recent project, HATCHLIGHT, explores the intersection of sustainability and environmental awareness by utilising natural and recycled materials to highlight the often-overlooked issue of light pollution. For this project, I developed a unique textile using seaweed collected from the beach, resulting in a material with a texture reminiscent of a fruit roll-up. The goal of HATCHLIGHT is to draw attention to the importance of switching to turtle-safe lighting during nesting and hatching seasons, promoting small but meaningful changes to protect marine life.

Project HATCHLIGHT utilises natural and recycled materials to raise awareness about the impact of light pollution. According to my research with the Loggerhead Marinelife Centre, light pollution created by white lights tricks turtle hatchlings, causing them to walk away from the ocean and towards the brighter light source.
