Hello, I’m Mika (Michaela) Ben-David, a second-year Fashion Design student at Shenkar College, ranked in the top five of my class with a 90/100 GPA. I treat fashion as a language: making sure to rhyme and find double entendres in my design so that each seam, print, or silhouette carries a message about topics close to my heart—social climate, political climate, belonging, or the literal climate. My recent denim capsule, built from thrifted jeans, reimagines “safe space” through oversized silhouettes and intimate hand-finishings, while an earlier reconstruction of an 1845 day dress sharpened my pattern-making, draping, and historic tailoring skills. Outside the studio I produced three clothing-swap events that redirected 3,200 garments—about 1.4 tons—from landfills, turning sustainability into a communal celebration. Online, my process diaries reach 12.9 k TikTok and 4.3 k Instagram followers, translating intricate craftsmanship into accessible stories that draw new audiences to conscious design. For the Only Natural competition I am presenting a piece that balances honest texture with a clear human story, documenting each decision in real time so peers can follow, question, and adapt. Clothes start conversations; I’m here to keep them going. Thank you for considering my work:) looking forward to weaving new stories together.
