Metta meditation stool

Category: Furniture

Competitions: Home Competition 2025

'Metta,' a kneeling meditation stool, elegantly combines traditional cane-weaving with a minimalist contemporary design. It optimizes the user's posture in the Vajrasana or Diamond Pose, distributing body weight away from the lower legs, enhancing comfort, and extending meditation sessions with lesser pain. The concept of yoga, originating from India, incorporates meditation as a vital component, aiding in stress relief and promoting overall well-being globally. 'Metta,' the kneeling meditation stool, celebrates this tradition and the craft culture by combining the traditional cane-weaving craft with an elegant contemporary form. The design seeks to push against the rigidness and hegemony of the standard ninety-degree seating posture and explores alternative ways of engaging with the spaces around us. It aims to reinvigorate ancient, timeless wisdom about mindfulness and combine it with today's sensibilities and demands.
