Product & Furniture Design BA (Hons)

I'm Omid Jahankhani a young designer maker whose design practise focuses on thoughtful, resourceful design, valuing the skill of craftsmenship and how materials can be utilised optimally. Recently opting to work with waste/off-cut materials that are locally sourced, I've begun a home ware product collection called the Off-cut Series where I find various disregarded materials and create functional, designed products. I intend to further expand on this style of work, showcasing the potential of overlooked material.

A stool collection made from locally sourced waste & off-cut resources, finding a balance between opposing materials to form functional products. Each piece is experimental in form due to the nature of the found materials, the various burnt wood finishes are an exploration of a traditional wood preservative method known as Shou sugi ban. Each stool is simply constructed using tenon joints and sealed using fire, a completely organic design process with a small use of wood glue for added strength on joints.
