Norwich University of the Arts

Fashion Design BFA

Hi, I'm May and I'm a fashion design student at Norwich university of the arts! I Started my personal journey with fashion from a very young age and I have continued this through to getting a degree in fashion design at Norwich university of the arts! I grew up in the Brighton area but have now moved to Norwich and I have found inspiration round every corner . People are at the centre of my studies. I want everything to be accessible and sustainable so we can all be happy! Breaking boundaries can be done in multiple ways. One of the easy things this can be done is by exaggeration in fashion and peoples looks as that is how one is initially judged. A Lot can be said about clothing. This has always been at the foundation of my work but I have begun to hone this in and to start my journey with accessible fashion! Creativity and individuality has always been a first priority of mine due to the fact that it brings me so many benefits when it comes to problem solving or just general happiness and ability to bring my own ideas which are in my head and for someone to smile. I myself have a very individual style. I mainly only wear the colour yellow and I would love to have the ability to create clothing and designs which will spark the same happiness for others as it does for me. By making fashion accessible for everyone and helping the planet at the same time. I would love to do this through getting qualifications and expanding my knowledge even further to challenge my imaginative thinking and adventurous mindset when it comes to fashion.

Daffodil Days

Category: Apparel

Competitions: Fashion

For this project, I want to combine natural fabrics and adaptive fashion to create a blend of wearable pieces that are responsibly sourced and inspired by daffodils. Adaptive fashion is such an important cause that is ignored by the fashion industry. Much like responsible fashion has been overlooked, bringing together these two causes promotes a healthier and more inclusive fashion industry. Natural fibres and fabrics are thought to be the most beneficial fabrics to people with disability for their sensory, friendly textures, and they are altogether better for body temperature regulation. Using these different parts of inspiration, I want to create something bright and cheerful, like looking at a yellow flower.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
