Vestige is a furniture collection inspired by the past, but made for the future. Taking inspiration from furniture designs in Victorian, Edwardian and mid century eras, along with traditional Irish craftmanship, a furniture collection has been design to inspire people to invest in their furnitiure. The aim reconnect individuals back to the made item, using a story that will prompt and inspire to choose quality, durable and handmade items over industrialised products. To create a story for people to connect with and to highlight the abundance of material that Ireland can provide instead of outsourcing, vestige is created with locally sourced sycamore wood and flax rope manufactured in England, Uk. Using flax rope was a design decision inspired by the strong link to flax production in Northern Ireland in the past, which is now a craft that is nearly dead. The sycamore wood was felled and sawmilled in county Derry, Northern Ireland. The decision to use both flax and locally sourced sycamore wood created character and a story for the collection that individuals can connect with, as not only is it inspired from traditional craftmanship with woven features but also inspired by furniture that would have been found in a grandparents house, providing a sense of comfort. Vestige has been designed so that people will invest in their next heirloom.
