Being a woman comes with many personal challenges that can be both money, time and energy consuming. Hair care is one of those challenges, especially for those with curl and coil textures, or as I like to refer to them as the highly textured. As a black woman understanding my hair in order for it to grow past my shoulders has been a battle especially when I was lacking in resources and hair knowledge. As care leaver the choice between food, necessities or essential to upkeep my appearance left my hair in ruins and as a mother of 5 quick hairstyling solutions are necessary. This has aspired me to provide simple, ethical, quick fix hair/head accessories options for highly textured hair, starting with satin scrunchies as it the weaving created a sheen texture that is great for keeping all hair textures lustrous! After launching LAILII (now to be known as EFFLURÉ) to sell the scrunchies on the Portobello Market and completing both a Millinery course and a MA Fashion Entrepreneurship and Innovation course, I have used my findings to innovate the classic aliceband by configuring corset and headpiece making techniques together which allows the use of ethical materials such as peace silk, GOTS certified cottons and recycable metals to make a sustainable, diverse and hair loving product that will turn one's unstyled hair into a graceful look
