RUA is a low-seating dining chair developed as part of Design Project 1 at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and was completed in April 2025. Crafted from teak wood and woven cotton niwar patti, the chair reinterprets everyday seating through simplicity, adaptability, and material honesty. Designed as a low-profile seating solution, RUA allows users to easily modify or personalize the woven elements, encouraging longevity and a deeper connection between the user and the object. By combining traditional weaving techniques with a refined, contemporary form, RUA presents an affordable and adaptable approach to modern living while celebrating the beauty of natural materials.
