Meet Ashraful, the 2024 People’s Choice Fashion Winner.
As a graduate of Fashion Design at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology, Ashraful draws much inspiration from traditional Bangladeshi craftmanship.
His project, Love and Nature, is inspired by Aztec design patterns and the Aztecs’ traditional use of natural materials. Ashraful used jute fabric, otherwise known as the golden fibre, and dyed his garments with haritaki, a natural dye derived from the fruits of the deciduous myrobalan plum tree. Each material and process used by Ashraful is a reflection of traditional Bangladeshi craftmanship. He hopes his work showcases the beauty and culture of Bangladeshi materials and design.
